US Representative for Illinois's 2nd congressional district serves on the congressional IT Subcommittee which has oversight jurisdiction over Federal information technology (IT), data standards and quality, cybersecurity, IT infrastructure and acquisition, emerging technologies, privacy, cloud computing, data centers and intellectual property. Rep. Kelly shares her journey with DyNAMC from growing up in New York City, having worked in her family grocery store at eight years old through serving in leadership capacities as a counselor, government and eventually politics.

As Maurice Tomlinson puts it, the law is no silver bullet. However, where there is discriminatory legislation, visibility campaigns done by any minority group are at risk. It is not a secret that contact and conversation are the best ways to eradicate xenophobia, but without legislation providing a means of legal recourse, advocates are at risk. DyNAMC speaks with International renowned LGBTI Activist Maurice Tomlinson as to why changed legislation is necessary.

In this episode we talk with Daryl Joy Walters who has accomplished a lot in her young life.
She has obtained a degree in religion and philosophy, worked on political campaigns in a variety of capacities and stays active with her church and politics while studying for a master’s in theology. Walters considers her greatest accomplishment to be her decision to return to Louisiana after college and work at her parents’ trucking and catering business. “A lot of the skills I learned from them have been helpful when I work with other people,” she shares.

In 2012, Rocco Giammaria encouraged his friend, Atima Omara, to seek the presidency of the Young Democrats of America.He assembled and managed her campaign, along with those of her six running mates. After nearly a year-long campaign, tens of thousands of dollars raised,and many trips across the country, Omara and her team won the election. She became the first African-American president in the organization’s 83-yearhistory in 2013. When we think about the role of a leader, we can’t tab out those who work tirelessly behind the scenes in a supportive role.Giammaria shares why he became involved with local politics.

Derrick Parker is part of a generation that takes a lot of heat for an assumed indifference to politics. But his strong work ethic and the inspiration he takes from the words of great and powerful men have made him something of an anomaly. After active and successful involvement in oratory competitions and national contests in high school, Derrick landed at Morehouse College, where he aspires to make a better future for himself as major world leaders of past and present influence him to work ever harder.
