Executive Director of the Native American Indian Housing Council (NAIHC), Pamala Silas, who is a descendant of the Oneida Tribe of Wisconsin, shares her perspective.

In 2012, Rocco Giammaria encouraged his friend, Atima Omara, to seek the presidency of the Young Democrats of America.He assembled and managed her campaign, along with those of her six running mates. After nearly a year-long campaign, tens of thousands of dollars raised,and many trips across the country, Omara and her team won the election. She became the first African-American president in the organization’s 83-yearhistory in 2013. When we think about the role of a leader, we can’t tab out those who work tirelessly behind the scenes in a supportive role.Giammaria shares why he became involved with local politics.
