In 2012, Rocco Giammaria encouraged his friend, Atima Omara, to seek the presidency of the Young Democrats of America.He assembled and managed her campaign, along with those of her six running mates. After nearly a year-long campaign, tens of thousands of dollars raised,and many trips across the country, Omara and her team won the election. She became the first African-American president in the organization’s 83-yearhistory in 2013. But his strong work ethic and the inspiration he takes from the words of great and powerful men have made him something of an anomaly. After active and successful involvement in oratory competitions and national contests in high school, Derrick landed at Morehouse College, where he aspires to make a better future for himself as major world leaders of past and present influence him to work ever harder.
